How to survive in New York for $5 a day.
Student eating habits are very different depending on the country you live in. As a student you must adapt to the environment around you and from time to time choose some food products over other.
Before you come to New York, you are living a luxurious lifestyle and eating whatever you want. E.g. While studying in Denmark I used to eat self made pizza's, sushis, pies, roast chicken! Pancakes with bananas and chocolate, beer/wines while enjoying the candle light. Sometimes I even ate fish (which is rarely affordable for regular foreign student)! But the times has changed... You must invent something new in order to stay alive in this huge and expensive city called New York.
Okay, so to the point. I know that there are lots of international students coming here so I hope that my "Scrambled Eggs Recipe" will be useful for all the other poor souls that were brave enough to face expenses and luxury of this fabulous city!
The first step would be to ask locals where can you buy some cheap food products. If you havent been so lucky and went to regular shop you must have spent 1.5x - 3x times more than you'd spent in a discount latino shop. So what you will need is:
- 4-8 Eggs (the cheapest I could find was $1,5 per dozen)
- Onion (even cheaper, around $1 per 3 onions)
- Green Pepper (because these are the cheapest, $1,5 per pound)
- Some salt, pepper, curry and spices (that's a luxury!)
So now you can take all the vegetables you have, chop them and throw into the pan. You can use some water instead of oil if you can't afford it.

Next step: take a pinch of salt, peppers and even less spices. Put these goods on the boiling vegetables.

After approximately 5 minutes you can put your eggs on top of the mass. Keep checking the bottom of your scrambled eggs - you dont want to burn your precious stuff.

And here it is! You have succesfully cooked your first cheap scrambled eggs!
Next time I'll teach you all how to make pasta with ketchup.
